“Recently, at Diane von Furstenberg’s Fall 2012 show, Sozzani revealed that she and her team were working on another Black themed issue for May or June. The issue, which is likely to be as lucrative as the past one, is said to be “about people who are from Africa in a positive way.”
In my opinion, this was long over do!!
What do you think beauties? Are you excited to see another all black edition of Italian Vogue or are you disappointed that out of the 18 national versions of Vogue there isn’t one edition in the continent of Africa?
Sound off below!
xoxo,
I'm very happy that they plan to have a "black issue" However, I also feel the same about it as I feel about black history month. – It's a nice effort, but you shouldn't have to have a whole month (or issue) dedicated to it. Vogue should be acknowledging African fashions more than in just that one issues. It would also be nice if they had an issue in the continent of Africa. Perhaps, they feel sales would be too low there?
One the other hand it can be argued that they cater to the target audience and the audience doesn't request that info. Or that the editorial calendar focuses on different areas each month and this month just happens to be the Black issue, Next month will be the Italian issue… Regardless, I still wish there was more representation within the magazine. Just glad they are finally giving credit to blacks and Africans where it's due.
Well said! I completely agree!
